Resident and medical-student papers are presented in the morning. We encourage you to spend the entire day — joining the afternoon resident lectures and the Surgical Skills Competition. All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend every session.

The meeting builds on the proud history of one of the largest ACS chapter meetings in the country, bringing program chairs, surgical residents, and medical students together for a full day of continuing education and fellowship.

Work must be performed during residency or research training. Medical-student and physician-assistant submissions are welcome — always indicate your mentor and the institution where the work was performed.

Submit online via the official submission form using the mandatory abstract template.

MS Word format only. Mac-native or PDF files will not be accepted. Must be submitted on the proper template.

Name your file as Last Name + first 10–15 characters of the title — e.g. “Smith New Laparoscopic.”

Formatting Your Abstract

Every abstract
must include

  • /Title, author(s) names & institution(s)
  • /Introduction — the reason for the study
  • /Methods employed
  • /Results — the exact results obtained
  • /Conclusion(s) reached
One page, 11pt minimum — title box, charts, tables, and B&W photos included. Embed all images (do not link), reduced to 72 dpi. Use of the submission template is mandatory.

Trauma Competition

The CT Committee on Trauma participates in the national COT competition; the first-prize winner presents at the New England Regional Trauma Competition in Boston in November.

Open to general-surgery residents, surgical-specialty residents, and trauma fellows. Medical students are not eligible. One-page abstracts describe original trauma research, categorized as basic laboratory research or clinical investigation. The dedicated Trauma template is required.

Commission on Cancer

The CT Commission on Cancer submits the winning abstract to the College for the 2027 ACS Cancer Research Competition.

To be considered for the ACS competition, your paper must be Basic Science or Clinical Research. Submit using the Chapter template.

Presentation Requirements
Submit PowerPoint by 5 PM, Fri Oct 23. Late slides forfeit your presentation slot.
Keep to your session's time. Moderators will cut presentations short to keep the program on schedule.
An LCD projector & laptop are provided. Personal equipment isn't permitted and slides can't change once submitted.
Authors of accepted papers must comply with the Chapter's CME Conflict-of-Interest disclosure policy and meet all deadlines, or risk removal from the competition. The program committee may add a Quick Shots section or recategorize papers at its discretion.
